Anyone who spends a lot of time on their computers knows the importance of having a good laser mouse. It can significantly boost your productivity and help you finish your tasks more efficiently. In this regard, Logitech has done a fantastic job in presenting the masses with a couple of world-class mice – the Logitech MX Master and the Logitech MX Master 2S. On the surface, the two look deceptively similar but when we dig deeper, we will see a stark difference.
In this article, we are going to take a look at the two mice and see how they can help you supercharge your workstation by 1000x. So without further adieu, here is our comparison and review of the Logitech MX Master and Logitech MX Masters 2S mice.
Logitech MX Master: The Start of Something Good!
With its first flagship model – the Logitech MX Master mouse, Logitech brought about a revolution. To begin with, this wireless mouse is capable of connecting to up to 3 devices at a time, whether they are operating on Windows or Mac OS. The best part is that you can switch between the three devices with the simple touch of a button. On the downside, this button is placed at the bottom of the mouse, so you will have to flip it over every time you need to make a switch.
This mouse is particularly useful for those people who operate on different systems at the same time. Whether it is designing or compiling your complex code, the MX Master mouse will help you efficiently navigate the systems with utmost precision and ease. The mouse can be connected to the computers either through Bluetooth, USB, or a unifying receiver.
The Logitech MX Master mouse has been designed such that it comes with a unique thumb wheel for horizontal navigation and advanced controls. With the help of Logitech’s in-house software, there is no limit to what you can achieve – you get the option to customize and set your own features so that you can use the mouse in a way conducive to your productiveness. You can even browse through the documents and pages faster with super-fast scrolling, thanks to the smart wheel feature.
Ergonomically speaking, the mouse will fit perfectly in the palm of your hand. The mold of the mouse is manufactured from a design that was originally hand-sculpted for best results. We never really faced any difficulties while trying to use the mouse – it was as smooth as silk. However, for someone with huge palm, it may be a bit tricky to work with the mouse properly.
Coming to the technical nitty-gritty of it, its dark-field laser sensors enable the mouse to work flawlessly on any surface, including glass and lustrous exteriors at a minimum thickness of 4mm. As for charging, it won’t really be an issue for you – a charge of four minutes will power the mouse for a whole day while a full charge will keep it going for up to 40 days.
At the moment, the Logitech MX Master is priced at $59, in comparison to its original listing price of $100. Definitely, a steal, if you ask us. Before you make your decision, take a look at why the Logitech MX Master 2S makes for a better choice.
Logitech MX Master 2S: Get in a Smooth FLOW
Now, the Logitech MX Master 2S mouse is quite similar to its predecessor: it is wireless, can connect to up to three devices and works superbly on Windows and Mac OS systems. Even by the sheer design, there isn’t a lot that separates the two: it has a thumbwheel for horizontal scrolling, super-fast scrolling mode, and an ergonomic design that delivers comfort and productivity.
But when we dig deeper, we begin to see the real difference. Right off the bat, the MX Master 2S mouse doesn’t need the touch of a button to switch between different computers. Instead, it operates on the in-house Logitech FLOW software that gives the user the power to move between the computers seamlessly.
To put it more simply, you can copy-paste text, files, and images from one computer to another by simply moving your mouse in the required direction. No buttons needed and no need for file transfer protocol – everything is sorted. It is incredibly powerful, especially if you use different systems to frequently move files. And if you are worried about the safety of your data, don’t be – Logitech employs SSL and AES-256 bit encryption to move the files around.
To make things more efficient, you can also add a FLOW-enabled keyboard to operate multiple workstations with one mouse and one keyboard. Of course, you will need to download the Logitech Options and Logitech Flow software to configure all of this.
There are also a couple of more improvements, namely in the tracking sensor. It employs a 4,000 dots per inch precision sensor that powers the mouse to work flawlessly, even on the glass surface. We personally gave it a try and we are happy to say that we weren’t disappointed. It worked exactly as described – if not, even better!
Additionally, Logitech improved the charging function in its MX Master 2S mouse. A single full charge with the micro USB charging cable can provide this wireless mouse with up to 70 days of power while a 3-minute charge can power the mouse for a whole day.
Which one is for you?
If price were the main deciding factor, then we’d recommend the Logitech MX Master as it was cheaper a few years back. But now, the two mice on Amazon are separated by just $10, with the MX Master 2S priced at $70. If you are looking for a mouse that can boost your productivity across multiple workstations, you will not find a better choice than this. Otherwise, you can always go with the MX Master by Logitech. In either case, the way you work will definitely elevate to a whole new level.
